Abernathy announces retirement

In a letter to the faculty and staff of the college, Abernathy said, "For 30 years, I have had the great opportunity and privilege of serving the agricultural clientele of Texas through research and education."

Abernathy, who prior to his term at Texas Tech was resident director of Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Lubbock, said, "Cindy and I have reached a time in our lives when we wish to devote more of our time to other priorities-family, children, and grandchildren. I have therefore notified Provost Marcy of my planned retirement from Texas Tech University effective Sept. 1, 2003.

"It has been a great honor to have served on behalf of each of you, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Texas Tech University,” he said.
