The USA Rice Federation has appointed Anne Banville vice president of domestic promotion.

Banville will lead the association's program to increase U.S. rice consumption. Banville brings an extensive background in both food promotion and policy, which will serve the rice industry's needs on both fronts. She will join the USA Rice staff in May.

“It has become increasingly clear that our domestic promotion program must also devote significant resources to food policy issues in order to continue to increase rice consumption in the United States,” said Charles Trahan, who chairs USA Rice's Domestic Promotion Committee. “For example, USDA's Food Guide Pyramid and the WIC program are important for rice. Anne Banville is eminently qualified to lead our initiatives on these issues, while her experience in public relations and food promotion will keep our domestic promotion program on its aggressive and highly effective track.”

Banville now runs a consulting service for food product and agribusiness clients, which have included the Almond Board of California and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. She has been a consultant for the USA Rice domestic promotion program since September 2003.

“We've had the opportunity to work with Ms. Banville and know she is a consummate professional as well as a highly regarded specialist in food product promotion and policy issues. We are excited to have her join our team,” said Stuart E. Proctor Jr., USA Rice president and CEO. Banville will be based in USA Rice's office in Arlington, Va. “We're consolidating our domestic promotion program operations to increase operational efficiency. Bringing the entire team together in one location under Ms. Banville's direction will be of great benefit,” Proctor said.

Banville holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. She also studied at the University of Paris, the Sorbonne.
