Brock Faulkner-Brazos Valley Cattleman’s Clinic scheduled Oct. 21

The future of the cattle market, plus alternative feeding options and livestock health issues during drought, are several topics that will be featured at the Brock Faulkner-Brazos Valley Cattleman’s Clinic scheduled Oct. 21 at the Brazos Valley Livestock Commission in Bryan.

“This year’s program will focus on the current drought situation and options to consider from this point forward,” said Eric Zimmerman, Texas AgriLife Extension Service agent for Brazos County. “Beef producers will also want to learn more about how this drought will be affecting the cattle market going into next year. This program will address many issues affecting operations across the Brazos Valley.”

Registration and check-in will begin at 8 a.m., followed by program presentations at 9 a.m.

Dr. David Anderson, AgriLife Extension livestock economist in College Station, will give a market overview and discuss factors affecting the future of the cattle market.  Dr. Jason Cleere, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist in College Station, will discuss alternative feeding options and feed budgeting to get through the winter-feeding period and into spring. Cleere will also give a presentation on replacement heifer selection consideration.

Dr. Vanessa Corriher, AgriLife Extension forage specialist at Overton, will provide information on winter pastures and options beef producers can consider.

Late registration is $20 per person.

Two hours of Texas Department of Agriculture general continuing education units are available for private, commercial and non-commercial pesticide applicators.
