The recent statewide dry spell, and the resulting burn bans in place around the state, have raised questions raised about who could burn what and when. To help answer some of these questions, the Nueces County Extension Service has organized a seminar to address these issues, Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Texas AgriLife Research & Extension Center on Hwy. 44, just west of the Corpus Christi Airport. The seminar will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 12 Noon.
Topics include: “Fire Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery,” by Dr. Wayne Hanselka, Extension Range Specialist; “Drought & Fire Management Tools,” by Tom Spencer of the Texas Forest Service; “Outdoor Burning Laws & Regulations in Texas,” by Dr. Hanselka; and “Managing Vegetation with Prescribed Burning,” by Jason Hohlt with the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
