Texas Cooperative Extension to present multi-county cotton workshop

DEVINE – Cotton disease, insect management and deficit irrigation will be the main topics discussed at the upcoming Multi-County Cotton Workshop presented by Texas Cooperative Extension. The workshop will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Devine Community Center, 200 E. Hondo St.
Three continuing education units will be awarded to attendees: two for laws and regulations and one for integrated pest management.
The workshop is being presented for cotton producers and others involved the cotton industry in Atascosa, Bexar, Frio, Medina, Uvalde and Zavala counties, said Jason Ott, Extension agent for agriculture in Medina County.
"Cotton producers who attend will particularly benefit from the information we will present on diseases in cotton crops and how to use irrigation more efficiently to maximize cotton crop profit potential," Ott said.
Topics will include root knot, fusarium diseases and bronze wilt; the effect of deficit irrigation on regional cotton crops; the cotton crop destruction program, and boll weevil eradication.
Registration for the workshop is free and includes lunch. Attendees are requested to make reservations by contacting Ott at 830-741-6180 before Feb. 16.
