Upland Cotton down from 2006

According to latest estimates of USDA National Ag Statistics Service Texas Field Office, the acreage planted in the state of Texas to Upland Cotton is down 22 percent from 2006 and down 16 percent from 2005.
Texas Upland cotton acreage for 2007 is estimated at 5.0 million acres.
In Districts 1-N and 1-S, approximating PCG's 41-county area, planted cotton acres total 3,020,000 according to the report released today.
District 1-N is comprised of the following counties: Armstrong, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Deaf Smith, Floyd, Gray, Hale, Hansford, Hartley, Hutchinson, Moore, Ochiltree, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, and Swisher.
District 1-S is comprised of the following counties: Andrews, Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Dawson, Gaines, Glasscock, Hockley, Howard, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Martin, Midland, Terry, and Yoakum.
The following counties fall within PCG's 41-county area: Andrews, Armstrong, Bailey, Borden, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Cochran, Crosby, Dallam, Dawson, Deaf Smith, Dickens, Floyd, Gaines, Garza, Hale, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill, Hockley, Howard, Hutchinson, Lamb, Lipscomb, Lubbock, Lynn, Martin, Midland, Moore, Motley, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher, Terry and Yoakum.
The first forecast of harvested acreage and production will be released on August 10, 2007.
