Deadline Aug. 17 to register for grazing workshop
Ranchers and landowners interested in learning about improving their cattle operations and profitability will want to register by Aug. 17 for the Ranch Management Clinic on August 21, 2012, at the American Legion Post #0436, 1404 Zanderson Avenue, in Jourdanton. The workshop is being hosted by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative.
Bill Armstrong, who spent 32 years managing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Kerr Management Area, will offer insight on what it takes to restore degraded, brush infested land for both livestock and wildlife. He will share tools on how a producer can manage livestock to positively impact their wildlife.
Mark Hazard, whose family stocker operation has been described as one of the most consistently profitable agricultural ventures in the U. S. and abroad, will share the principles that make this operation run smoothly and profitably. Mark will also draw from his experiences as president of First Commerce Bank in West Point, Mississippi to share the banker’s view on cattle loans.
Vance Mitchell is a sixth generation Texas rancher who will discuss how he stays flexible and profitable in the livestock business by operating both cow/calf and stocker operations on his ranch. Mitchell will share his philosophy for dealing with changing livestock markets and grazing management.
