Farm groups pursuing ‘fairness’ in ag spending cuts

Kyle McCann says there’s no doubt something has to be done about the federal debt, which is projected to reach more than $14 trillion this fiscal year. He told farmers attending the LSU Rice Research Station Field Day on June 30 that current estimates are that Congress could cut ag spending by $1 billion to $3 billion per year over the next 10 years. McCann, national affairs director for the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, outlined some of the programs and dollar figures involved in the impending budget battle during a presentation at the annual field day.
