On May 29, 2012, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the closure of 125 Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices nationwide, including 15 county offices in Texas. James B. Douglass, Acting State Executive Director for the Texas FSA, today announced effective closing dates for the 15 FSA county offices in Texas.
Below is a list of FSA offices to be closed, the effective closing dates and the new default headquarter office.
- Andrews County (Andrews) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be in Gaines County (Seminole).
- Cass-Marion County (Linden) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be in Bowie County (New Boston).
- Delta County (Cooper) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be in Hopkins County (Sulphur Springs).
- Hutchinson County (Stinnett) FSA will close on Aug. 10, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Hansford County (Spearman).
- Lee County (Giddings) FSA will close on Sept. 21, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Fayette County (LaGrange).
- Midland County (Midland) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Ector County (Odessa).
- Mills County (Goldthwaite) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be San Saba County (San Saba).
- Roberts County (Miami) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Gray County (Pampa).
- Rusk County (Henderson) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Cherokee County (Rusk).
- San Augustine-Sabine County (San Augustine) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters for San Augustine County will be Nacogdoches County (Nacogdoches). The new headquarters for Sabine County will be Jasper County (Jasper).
- Shelby County (Center) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Nacogdoches County (Nacogdoches).
- Upshur-Gregg County (Gilmer) FSA will close on Aug. 10, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Smith County (Tyler).
- Val Verde County (Del Rio) FSA will close on Aug. 10, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Schleicher County (Eldorado).
- Van Zandt County (Canton) FSA will close on Aug. 10, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Henderson County (Athens).
- Waller County (Hempstead) FSA will close on Aug. 24, 2012, and the new headquarters will be Harris County (Houston).
Agricultural producers, landowners and operators affected by these office closures will receive written correspondence from FSA management regarding the office closure process. Upon receipt of the letter, producers will have 30 days to elect to move their respective business records to a county of their choosing if a county other than the default headquarters location is more convenient (note that some restrictions apply). After the 30 days, if no alternative county has been selected, all producer records in the closing county office will automatically be transferred to the new receiving headquarter office.
