Gibson named 2004 Texas Wheat Man of the Year

Foy Gibson of Bend, Texas, was named the 2004 Texas Wheat Man of the Year at a ceremony in Amarillo last month. Gibson was bestowed this honor by the Texas Wheat Producers Board. The Board honored Gibson for his life-long commitment and dedication to the wheat industry of Texas.
Gibson is the owner and operator of Gibson Brothers Feed and Seed located in Lometa where he and his family have served Central Texas producers for over 40 years. He actively farms wheat, corn, pecans, peanuts and hay on land that has been in his family for over 150 years. Gibson is the only man in his area who irrigates by pumping water directly from the Colorado River.
Gibson has been a dedicated leader who is actively involved in local, state and national organizations. He was elected to the Texas Wheat Producers Board in 1987, and currently serves as secretary. He has worked to increase wheat sales overseas, promote improvements in wheat varieties and has traveled extensively on behalf of the Board. He has traveled as far as Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, to visit CIMMYT, an international wheat research center.
Gibson has been an integral part of the legislative activities performed by the Texas Wheat Producers Association. As First-Vice President, he has spent numerous hours meeting with the Commissioner of Agriculture, the Texas Agricultural Council and state and national congressional officials. He will continue to serve wheat farmers in the next legislative session, as he was named president of the Texas Wheat Producers Association for 2005.
Beyond his work for Texas wheat producers, Gibson has been involved in the state legislative process as a “Silver-Haired” legislator, where he represented the needs and views of Senior Citizens in his area. He currently serves on the Lower Colorado River Authority Board and is an active member of the Church of Christ. In 1991, he was named Outstanding Farmer and Rancher by the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce. He has been featured in Texas Monthly, Southwest Farm Press and many local newspapers.
Gibson has been married to his wife, Clovis, for 55 years. They have four children: daughters, Clovia Ketchum and LaVada McCoury, and sons, Grady Gibson and Glen Gibson of Bend.
