Texas groups to co-sponsor U.S.-Cuba conference

The Port of Galveston and the Texas Farm Bureau will be sponsors of the U.S. Cuba Business Conference, which will be in Cancun, Mexico. and Havana, Cuba, Feb. 17-19, 2003.
Other sponsors of the Conference include Arkansas Farm Bureau, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, U.S.-Cuba Trade Association, Alamar Associates, Patton Boggs LLP, Americans for Humanitarian Trade with Cuba, the GIC Group, Monterey Bay International Trade Association, World Development Federation and Site Selection magazine.
Joseph Green, northern regional manager of Caterpillar, which will be an exhibitor at the conference said, “We were able to make new friends and renew old acquaintances at last January's Cancun conference, which has helped us understand the changing business environment in Cuba.”
The U.S.-Cuba Trade Association and Alimport, the Cuban government's purchasing organization, are cooperating on the February conference. Pedro Alvarez, chairman of Alimport, will head a delegation of more than 30 senior Cuban commerce officials to the U.S.-Cuba Business Conference.
Kirby Jones, president of the U.S.-Cuba Trade Association said after a recent visit to Cuba, “I have had several meetings with Pedro Alvarez and his colleagues. and they are enthusiastic about the business prospects which will be generated by this next conference in Cancun and Havana.”
Following the first business conference in Cancun, Mexico last January, the U.S-Cuba Trade Association was founded to develop and strengthen economic and commercial ties between U.S. companies and commercial partners in Cuba.
The February Conference is the third of a series of conferences that will highlight wood, agricultural and medical suppliers and products to Cuba.
