The latest in irrigation technology, groundwater district concerns and drought-tolerant crops will be highlighted at the annual High Plains Irrigation Conference and Trade Show.

The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Regency Room of the Amarillo Civic Center, 401 S. Buchanan Street, in Amarillo, according to Nich Kenny, Texas AgriLife Extension Service irrigation specialist.

“We get lots of questions on how to cope with limited water, so we want to give more specific answers to it during the program,” Kenny said. “We’ve lined up speakers with experience in dealing with practical issues of limited water.”

Conference topics include: Panhandle-region groundwater concerns, drought-tolerant corn, subsurface drip irrigation and center-pivot technology, he said.

Continuing education units that have been requested are: 4.5 credits for certified irrigation designers by Irrigation Association, five soil and water management credits for certified crop advisors, and two general credits for pesticide applicators.

Industry, groundwater districts and education institutions will have about 25 booths set up for the trade show, Kenny said.
