USDA’s recent decision to allow growers to plant Roundup Ready alfalfa has sparked renewed interest among alfalfa growers in California and other states. The University of California’s Dan Putnam talked about his university’s efforts to protect the interest of Roundup Ready growers, organic growers and exporters during his presentation at the Forage Seminar at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, Calif., last week. Putnam also discussed the need for using good agronomic and weed control practices to forestall the development of glyphosate resistance in California’s alfalfa fields.
