Mike Key of Baxter Seed Co. in Weslaco, has been elected president of the Texas Seed Trade Association. Key was elected to lead the association in 2003 at the group's recent annual convention in Austin.

A 20-year veteran of the seed industry, he currently serves as the president and general manager for Baxter Seed. Prior to that, he served as regional manager for Mexico at Abbott & Cobb, Inc. He has served on the board of directors since 1997 and has held various committee and division offices.

“Being named the president of our association is both a thrilling and humbling experience,” Key said. “I want to assure you that I will work to ensure the continued success of TSTA.”

Key is an advocate of working together for the mutual success of the industry.

“TSTA can, by all of us working together, find ways to improve our industry,” he said.

“These include using the growout program to ensure quality and working with elected officials to ensure that the products our seeds produce have a fair and equitable standing in the market.”

Key welcomed association members to give him a call to share their thoughts, concerns, or just to say hello. He can be reached at 956-968-3187.

Other newly elected officers for 2003 include:
