Citrus Greening Conference slated for November 16-18

Texas is hosting a Citrus Greening conference on November 16-18, at the McAllen Convention Center, McAllen. With Citrus Greening being so important and this conference being held locally, organizers encourage producers to still sign up. Most of these conferences are held in Florida or California.
“We know this is a busy time of year for growers but we urge you to give serious consideration to taking advantage of this opportunity,” says Ray Prewett, Texas Citrus Mutual.
John da Graca says some of the conference presentations will be more for scientists many of them were designed with growers in mind. The speakers include several scientists who are doing cutting edge work on psyllid control and other topics. “There will not be another opportunity like this any time soon for growers to catch up on the latest in knowledge and techniques related to the disease and the vector,” Prewett said.
Prewett said one speaker in particular deserves recognition. “Dr. George Bruening, University of California at Davis, is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and chaired the extensive undertaking by the academy to give direction to the crash research effort in Florida on Citrus Greening. From all reports he is a very good speaker as well as a very well respected plant virologist. Dr. Bruening will be addressing the conference at lunch either on Monday or Tuesday.”
