Meeting provides information on wildlife management

The 2009 joint meeting of the Oklahoma Chapter of The Wildlife Society and Bollenbach Wildlife Symposium will take place from Wednesday, Sept. 9, to Friday, Sept. 11, in Ardmore. The event will include a business meeting and field tours.
The business meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Noble Foundation Pavilion, located across from the main campus in Ardmore. The joint meeting will begin the next day with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, located at 2705 W. Broadway, Ardmore, Okla.
Participants will enjoy tours all day Thursday, including the Lake Murray Field Trial Grounds Bobwhite Habitat Restoration Project, the Noble Foundation Coffey Ranch and a private landowner’s waterfowl management area. Each site will include a project overview as well as presentations on prescribed burning, cedar control, wetland design, native rangeland management and timber thinning.
“Both professional and private land managers can benefit from this meeting,” said Steven Smith, president of the Oklahoma Chapter of The Wildlife Society and Noble Foundation wildlife consultant. “With such a wide range of wildlife and habitat management topics, attendees will find a great deal of useful information.”
The meeting will conclude with a series of presentations from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center, directly east of the Noble Foundation campus. Professionals in the wildlife management field will speak on a range of subjects from implications of spraying herbicides to privatization of wildlife management and antler development in white-tailed deer.
