Poultry workshop slated for November 5
A South Texas Poultry Workshop will be conducted on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center, (10345 State HWY 44) just west of the Corpus Christi Airport from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. This workshop is designed for both youth poultry exhibitors and commercial producers.
The featured speakers for the workshop will include two professors from the Poultry Science Department at Texas A&M University in College Station, namely; Dr. Morgan Farnell, Extension Program Leader for Poultry Science and Dr. Craig Coufal, Extension Poultry Specialist.
The morning session will focus on Poultry Management for Stock Shows, including in-depth discussions on Housing Needs, Nutrition, the Culling and Selection Process, followed by processing the birds. There will be an opportunity for “hands-on” training during this session and a great opportunity for 4-H and FFA members to enhance their poultry production skills.
Following a catered lunch, the afternoon session will focus on Small Flock Management. Topics to be addressed will include; laying hen management, maintaining a healthy flock, and rules and regulations related to the sale of live poultry, eggs, and processed poultry meat.
