Case IH had major product introductions in 2011 — and in addition to other equipment — the companyproudly welcomes to its Efficient Power family the next generation of legendary Axial-Flow combines: the 5130, 6130, 7130, 7230, 8230, and 9230.
The new Axial-Flow 30 Series combines meet Tier 4A emissions regulations while improving both performance and efficiency. With the industry’s largest lineup, including two Class 7 models, Case IH combines are designed to simplify harvest.
The Axial-Flow 5130 features the proven Case IH FPT 6.7L engine, while the Axial-Flow 6130, 7130 and 7230 rely on the Case IH FPT 8.7L engine. A Case IH FPT 12.9L engine powers the new 8230 and 9230, delivering an additional 30 and 20 horsepower over previous models, respectively.
To meet Tier 4A emissions, the Case IH FPT engines use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which functions outside the combine engine, treating the exhaust post-combustion. Because the exhaust after-treatment is separated from the engine function, Case IH engines can be tuned to allow for complete diesel combustion, optimum performance, peak fluid efficiency and extended service intervals.
Case IH 30 Series combine engines offer, on average, a 10 percent fuel efficiency advantage over previous Tier 3 models. And, for even more fuel savings, model year 2012 Tier 4A combines offer automatic low idle speeds of 600 rpm.
The engines are only the beginning of Case IH efficiency boosting technologies.
An upgraded unload system reduces unload time up to 40 percent over previous models. The 6130 and 7130 have faster unload rates from 3 to 3.2 bushels per second. The 7230 and 8230 boast an increased unload rate from 3.2 to 4 bushels per second, and the 9230 has an astonishing 4.5 bushel per second unload rate —a 1.3 second increase from the prior 9120 model.
In addition, an optional independent cross auger control, which is standard on the 9230, gives operators more flexibility during the unload process. The entire unload system has been enhanced with larger components, including a larger 17-inch vertical tube and a larger, high capacity unload elbow.
For today’s largest headers —those 45 feet and larger —an optional 31-foot unload auger is now available. To further maximize uptime during unload, Axial‑Flow 30 Series combines feature powered grain tank extensions on the 7230, 8230 and 9230.
In addition, the Power Plus CVT drives on these models provide more power, less downtime, and unique in-field capabilities, like patented header to groundspeed control, ensuring smooth material flow from header to spreader.
Smooth crop flow has been a hallmark of the simple Axial-Flow rotor for 35 years with its concentric rotor cage design, improving throughput, and putting more high quality grain in the tank.
On the 7230, 8230, and 9230 models, the self-leveling grain pan, pre-sieve, upper and lower sieves, and cleaning fan provide maximum grain savings and efficiency. Adjustable electronic sieves come standard on every model.
The upgraded Case IH AFS Pro 700 monitor with a larger, easy-to-read screen helps farmers monitor yield and provides machine and guidance control.
Compatible with all Case IH high horsepower equipment, the AFS Pro700 can easily be transferred from the combine in the fall to a tractor and/or sprayer in the spring, maximizing your investment.
The Case IH AFS Pro 700 comes mounted in the largest and quietest cab on the market. In addition, the Axial-Flow multi-function handle controls many vital harvest functions, all while the operator’s arm stays in a comfortable resting position.
Similar functions are grouped together on the control handle and multiple settings for different crops and conditions can be easily saved for future use.
The combine functions at full capacity, without needing constant adjustment, reducing farmer fatigue at the end of the day.
With the launch of its newest 1,200-gallon sprayer — the Patriot 4430 — Case IH once again sets the industry standard for power, fuel-efficiency, productivity and comfort.
The flagship model in this series of industry-leading sprayers, known for its cab-forward, rear-engine configuration, is an appropriate addition to the Case IH Efficient Power family, delivering more horsepower in a more fuel-efficient package.
Together these features allow operators to get in the field sooner to meet critical application windows with the power to handle challenging field conditions.
The Patriot 4430 features the proven 8.7L Case IH FPT engine with 12 percent more horsepower than its predecessor, the Patriot 4420. Rated at 325 horsepower (hp) with power growth up to 356 hp at 2,100 rpm, it has more than enough power to climb hills and navigate wet spots in the field.
And, using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologyto increase fuel-efficiency and reduce maintenance requirements, the Patriot 4430 not only meets Tier 4A emission standards, it provides operators with a significant operating cost advantage on average over other sprayers in its class.
The Patriot 4430 features an updated Surveyor cab design based on the Steiger tractor cab, which increases interior cab space to an industry-leading 132 cubic feet, allowing more space to work and better visibility. That, in combination with the cab-forward design and more glass than any other cab, makes long days in the field easier and more comfortable for operators, and thus reduces fatigue and minimizes crop damage.
The right-hand console moves with the seat for easy access, providing near-effortless control of all sprayer functions. The optional AFS Pro 700 color display provides a single interface for sprayer control and guidance operation.
To get into wet fields sooner and maximize critical spraying windows, the Patriot 4430 utilizes the series’ industry exclusive cab-forward, rear-enginedesign for more even weight distribution. This reduces rutting and soil compaction, even as the tank empties.
To simplify operation, the Patriot 4430 offers an optional 120-foot boom with the AutoFold Plus boom fold/unfold feature. The AutoFold Plus raises booms out of the cradle and initiates the unfolding process usinga single switch. About 30 seconds later, the inner-, mid- and outer-boom sections are completely unfolded and the center section height has lowered to its most recent setting.
This return-to-height feature eliminates any guesswork about boom height when moving from field to field. Folding the booms is simply the same process in reverse.
The Patriot 4430’s 1,200-gallon capacity tank comes equipped with full length sparge and rinse tubes for product agitation and tank cleaning. Plumbing options can be added to handle low-flow, standard, or high-flow application rates, such as for liquid fertilizer.
Equipping the Patriot with AFS AccuGuide autoguidance reduces skips and overlaps, eliminates foam marker expense, and minimizes operator fatigue. AccuBoom automatic boom section control automatically turns on and off boom sections based on GPS-based as-applied maps.
Case IH has also introduced the new 2012 Maxxum tractor lineup, now equipped with enhanced operator controls, fuel-saving Tier 4A engines, and more powerful hydraulics to deliver livestock and mixed farm operations the best possible balance of productivity, fuel efficiency and versatility.
The Maxxum Series now offers the choice of a standard base package, or deluxe "MultiController" configuration, with six models to choose from in each. Both packages offer 4 or 6 cylinder engines with electronic common rail fuel system.
The new, optional MultiControl Armrest console brings all vital tractor operations within easy reach, with the handle itself containing six key tractor functions literally at the operator's fingertips. Handle functions include engine speed, transmission gear, forward/reverse shuttle, hydraulic remote, hitch, and automatic end-of-row function.
The MultiControl armrest console was developed with extensive producer input throughout its development. This customer-driven process incorporated the suggestions of producers across North America, and resulted in 80 percent of operators' typical motions being located within the palm of their hand.
An integrated electro-hydraulic joystick option is also available, for easy front-end loader work with less fatigue. Operators have also found the integral joystick works very well when used in conjunction with rear hydraulic remotes, for easy operation of rear implements such pull-type mower conditioners, or any rear implement that involves feathering or frequent use of hydraulic remotes.
The MultiControl Armrest also features an integrated control pad for comfortable, comprehensive tractor control of less frequently used functions within arm's reach.
The pressure-sensitive touchpad includes functions for constant engine speed, auto PTO and auto shift, along with hitch position control.
Maxxum MultiController models also feature a new instrument cluster, displaying fuel and engine temperature gauges, a warning light panel, transmission display and general operational information, located within the operator's natural line of sight at the right front cab corner post.
Equipped with either the proven 4.5L or 6.7L Tier 4A-compliant engines, the Maxxum tractor models utilize Case IH Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to meet the latest governmental emission standards and enhance engine performance.
Unlike Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), SCR technology routes clean and cool air to the engine without the need for EGR coolers or filters. SCR allows Case IH to fine-tune the engine combustion process for improved fuel efficiency, lower engine temperatures, increased reliability and longer maintenance intervals.
The new 2012 Maxxum series also features standard power boost, which provides additional engine power of up to 25 horsepower to maintain optimal working speeds, while handling tough crop conditions or heavy loads.
The PTO, hydraulics and transport power boost have become standards of Maxxum tractor performance. In addition, compared to previous models, the new Maxxum Series achieves standard PTO speeds at a lower engine RPM for enhanced fuel economy in PTO applications.
The new base Maxxum features a new open-center hydraulic system delivering 18 gallon-per-minute hydraulic flow, 26 percent more flow than the previous Maxxum "value" series models. This enhanced, higher-flow open center hydraulic system also features standard flow-control dials located at the rear remotes.
Optional Pressure Flow Compensating (PFC) hydraulics with 26 gallon-per-minute flow capability and in-cab flow control is available as an option in the new Maxxum base models, while standard in the new Maxxum MultiController models.
New deluxe remotes, standard with the PFC hydraulic system, offer higher flow at an individual remote, along with an enhanced sealing design for improved long-term reliability.
Case IH is also expanding its lineup of application toolbars for row crop producers with the Nutri-Placer 930 and Nutri-Tiller 950.
With new sizes available to match the full lineup of Case IH tractors, these pull-type anhydrous applicator toolbar and strip-till systems can accommodate all sizes of farming operations.
The Nutri-Placer 930 provides consistent nitrogen placement in the root zone with excellent sealing capability for maximum potential nitrogen-use efficiency by the crop. The toolbar comes in working widths of 27.5 feet, 32.5 feet, 37.5 feet, 42.5 feet and 47.5 feet. The 930 is equipped to match the Case IH Puma, Maxxum, Magnum and some of the Steiger row crop tractors.
In addition to the 60 and 65 foot models introduced in 2010, a new 50 foot version has been added.
Finally, the Nutri-Tiller 950 provides industry-leading strip-till productivity and is also equipped with optional NH3 fertilizer capability.
The Nutri-Tiller 950 comes in 20-foot, 30-foot, 40-foot or 60-foot working widths, following the rest of the 900-series commercial-grade family of Case IH application equipment. With so many models to choose from, producers can find the right Nutri-Tiller to match any of the full range of Case IH tractors.
The Nutri-Placer 930 offers 15-inch, 20-inch or 30-inch row spacing, while the Nutri-Tiller 950 offers 30-inch row spacing.
Both the Nutri-Placer 930 and Nutri-Tiller 950 application toolbars have a heavy-duty welded frame design for more uptime, faster ground speeds, and maximum reliability and durability.
Welded cross-members between the forward and rear tube add strength and durability. Three rows of thick tubing that run the entire toolbar’s width support the toolbar’s strong ground-engaging components at field speeds up to seven mph. Double-gusseted joints, top and bottom, are found throughout the design, to allow producers to navigate rolling terrain with confidence.
The beefed-up front hitch adds strength to support the mainframe and rear hitch when pulling at the faster in-field ground speeds seen in today’s ag world.
A strong deluxe rear hitch with a straight through design for effortless hook-up has poly skid plates for reduced friction and operator fatigue. The rear hitch also swings and can be extended to more easily facilitate hitching to a tank.
A clevis hitch complements the tough frame for trouble-free hook-up. This more universal hitch assembly accommodates all sizes and types of tractors.
The Nutri-Placer and Nutri-Tiller’s coulters deftly chop through residue. The knife and sealing discs for product application enable the toolbars to handle a wide range of soil conditions.
The coulter effectively creates a path for the shank, which forms a fertilizer trench without building up residue.
The coulter sports an extra-strong assembly, providing reliable down-pressure and penetration in hard soils and heavy crop residues. Slipping coulter shafts are a thing of the past with the all-new recessed positions for the coulter lock bolts.
Several different shank options are available for the 930. Rigid shanks, heavy duty spring shanks, coulter/shank combination for narrow rows or the popular High Clearance Shank (HCS), the 930 can offer it all.
New to the 930 and the 950 is the redesigned HCS. Originally introduced on the Nutri-Placer 940 in 2010, the HCS shank is designed for soils with rocks and other obstructions, but it also works well in rock-free soil. This proven, knife- based technology provides precise nitrogen placement and retention.
Two opposing sealing discs seal the furrows created by the coulter and shank. The discs can be positioned in either concave or reverse convex positions, if desired. Solid discs are recommended for conventionally tilled fields, while notched discs are recommended for consistent closing in fields with heavy residue.
Strengthened running gearsallows the applicator to handle operating speeds of up to seven miles per hour.
Stubble resistant (FI) tires are available on both the Nutri-Placer 930 and Nutri-Tiller 950.
While the Nutri-Placer 930 and Nutri-Tiller 950 boast a durable frame, they also flex enough to simply fold up over the center main frame for narrow transport. Models less than 40 feet are single fold, while models over 40 feet are double fold.
Reinforced wing pivots with non-greasable poly bushings make folding simple. The poly bushings extend the unit’s life and significantly reduce service needs. On larger models, a flow-divider allows the wings to fold at the same time, resulting in less frame stress and more productivity. This means more time spent in the working position and less time in transport.
A handheld turnbuckle, which adjusts the depth settings on the toolbar’s single point depth control, means producers can leave the wrenches in the shop and easily make adjustments in the field.
The hydraulic lift system allows the unit to raise and lower more evenly for maintaining consistent application depth. It has a simple series circuit, so when the toolbars rise to their highest position, the cylinders re-phase.
It’s an age-old problem in agriculture: ground-engaging tools — disks, coulters and wavy blades that penetrate soil and cut crop residues — eventually go dull.
Until now, there was no way to realistically sharpen a wavy-bladed implement with dull blades.
The patent-pending Robo-Sharpener system sharpens a Case IH Turbo blade in just a few minutes. The sharpener is equipped with a trolley system, allowing it to roll along a rail from blade to blade while the operator watches.
Not only does the Case IH Robo-Sharpener sharpen wavy blades, it also sharpens standard concavity disk blades. After using the Robo-Sharpener, the blades will have a restored cutting edge that can slice through tough residue and penetrate hard soil.
The key breakthrough in developing the Robo-Sharpener was exploiting the principle of the pendulum, first studied by Galileo in 1602. With the appropriate leverage provided by the sharpener’s own weight mounted to the pendulum, the sharpening wheel tracks the undulations of the wavy blades.
A gang driver rotates the blades at the ideal speed while being sharpened. This balance also keeps heat away from the target blade so blade steel integrity is not compromised.
The economics are attractive, too. While sharpening labor and applicable travel costs vary by area, utilizing the Robo-Sharpener from your local Case IH dealer can save you up to 85 percent of the cost to re-blade an implement.
