The USA Rice Federation has appointed Steven L. Hensley director of regulatory affairs. Hensley will join USA Rice on June 23, moving from the Agricultural Retailers Association where he served as director of regulatory policy.

“Regulatory policy favorable to the growth and profitability of the U.S. rice industry is critically important to our producer and miller membership,” said USA Rice Federation president and CEO Stuart E. Proctor Jr.

“Steven Hensley has an outstanding background and experience in the environmental and regulatory arena, where so many issues vital to crop production and milling operations are in motion every day. He fills a key role on our government affairs team and will provide essential liaison for the rice industry with regulatory agencies and law makers.”

Hensley's prior experience includes serving as director of regulatory affairs for the North American Equipment Dealers Association, environmental specialist for the American Trucking Associations, and senior environmental specialist for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Hensley has authored more than 250 documents and comments addressing state/federal regulations on behalf of regulated entities.

He is a graduate of James Madison University. He and his family own and operate a cattle farm in Castleton, Va.
