32nd Rice Technical Working Group meeting to be held in San Diego, CA, Feb 18-21, 2008

The 32nd Rice Technical Working Group (RTWG) meeting will be held February 18-21, 2008, at the Westin San Diego in San Diego, California. The RTWG, which has met biennially since 1960, brings together those involved in every aspect of rice production – growers, scientists, extension personnel, government and industry representatives. The objective of the RTWG meeting is to share information, coordinate research and join efforts to find solutions for the rice industry’s most important problems.

The program includes a half-day symposium, a poster session, committee meetings, and six technical sessions on the following topics: rice culture; breeding and genetics; economics and marketing; plant protection; processing, storage and quality; rice weed control and growth regulation.

Featured speakers include John Sheehy, International Rice Research Institute; Will Horwath, Department of Land, Air and Water Resources, UC Davis; Scott Rozelle, Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, Stanford University; Mark Rosegrant, International Food Policy Institute; George Soares, Legal Counsel, Governmental Affairs Advisor; Reece Langley, Senior Director, USA Rice Federation; and Tim Johnson, CEO, California Rice Commission.
