Lower Rolling Plains Agricultural Conference set for April 4 in Snyder
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the annual multi-county “Lower Rolling Plains Agricultural Conference” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 4 at the Scurry Coliseum, 900 E. Coliseum Drive in Snyder.
“The conference will cover all the important topics facing our area’s agricultural producers in the season ahead,” said Greg Gruben, AgriLife Extension agent in Scurry County.
“The topics will range from cotton economics to dealing with feral hogs and everything in between,” he said. “As in years past, AgriLife Extension agents in the participating counties have made every effort to identify the information producers not only want, but actually need. Though the program curriculum deals with our immediate area, much of the information is applicable almost anywhere in Texas.”
Morning topics will include: cotton and grain economics, laws and regulations, weed resistance to herbicides and the weather cycle outlook.
Following a catered lunch, the program will split into concurrent sessions A and B.
Session A presentations will be: Water Quality Effects on Herbicide; Deep Sampling of Nitrogen and Variety Trial Results; Grain Sorghum Production; and Integrated Pest Management Update.
Session B presentations will include talks on: Cow Herd Management; Weed and Brush Control in Range and Pastures; Feral Hogs, the Good, Bad and Ugly; Forage Sorghums, and Vaccination/Trichomoniasis Update.
Seven Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered, five in the general category, one in laws and regulations, and one in integrated pest management.
Also, persons needing a new Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator’s license can receive the necessary training from 8:30 a.m. to noon with the testing to follow at 1 p.m. For this training, RSVP by March 27 by calling 325-573-5423.
