New Mexico, Texas set dairy meeting

The New Mexico/Texas Dairy Highlights meeting has been scheduled for Oct. 11 at the Clovis Civic Center, a Texas Cooperative Extension specialist said.

Ellen Jordan, Extension dairy specialist, said the joint meeting with Texas A&M University and New Mexico State University is a way for producers to learn about the latest research and demonstration results from the two universities.

“In addition, we're bringing in speakers to talk about two hot issues, immigration and using information to make decisions on feed purchases,” Jordan said. “Many dairy employees are immigrants, so changes in federal laws could impact the availability of the dairy workforce.”

Feed costs already are responsible for about half the cost of production on most dairies, she said. Pre-registration is required by Sept. 27. To pre-register or for more information, call Nennich at 254-968-4144 or Hagevoort at 505-985-2292, or log on to http://texasdairymatters.org
