Marie DesOrmeaux, a native of Abbeville, La., has joined the USA Rice Federation team in Arlington, Va. as director of communications.

The USA Rice Federation is the national advocate for all segments of the rice industry, conducting activities to influence government programs, developing and initiating programs to increase worldwide demand, and providing other services to increase industry profitability.

DesOrmeaux comes to USA Rice from the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), where she worked as communications director. Ross serves as Ranking Member of the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee on the House Agriculture Committee.

Prior to working for Ross, DesOrmeaux was a reporter and weekend anchor at KLFY TV-10 in Lafayette, La., where she earned two Louisiana Associated Press awards for her coverage of local issues and events.

She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Legislative Affairs at the George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management. DesOrmeaux is a 2000 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she studied broadcasting and political science.
