USGC's Mideast trip shows trade potential

Iraq and the potential it holds as a market for U.S. feed grains took center stage recently as U.S. Grains Council (USGC) officers recapped their recent mission to Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. The mission took place March 21-April 1.

“The work we're doing in Iraq is what the council does best,” said USGC Chairman Terry Wolf.

“We're in the embryonic stages of developing that market and it's very fascinating. In time, this could be a 2 million metric ton market for feed grains compared to the 800,000 tons the country once imported 15 years ago.”
